The Moonshine Express, not to be confused with the movie with a similar name, was a rejected dark ride concept proposed for Disneyland's Bear Country. The ride would an extension of Country Bear Jamboree and would have guests go against some bootlegger bears who aren't friendly unlike the bears in the Country Bear Jamboree.
History[]
The ride was originally going to be a flume ride and would arm guests with fake riffles. However, The ride was shelved due to higher ups at Disney, despite there being a shooting range in Frontierland, not liking the idea of arming guests with rifles.
The ride would have been somewhat revived as Splash Mountain, however this time being themed to the characters of the 1946 Disney film Song of the South, and would open in 1989 at the newly named Critter Country. One last attempt to add a Country Bear themed ride would come nearing the end of the original attractions lifespan. In an effort to save the Country Bears,Imagineers came up with the Critter Country 500, a soapbox derby racing themed attraction with guests riding in ramshackle carhoping and running up against the Country Bears in a variety of wacky vehicles, to preserve the characters and allow them to still have a place in the parks. However, the concept would be rejected in favor of simply building a copy of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
